On Saturday, April 29, nearly 100 Grand Rapids First volunteers participated in the 2nd annual local celebration of Día Del Niño at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. This celebration included resource representation of over 50 organizations, carnival games, face painting, performances, soccer, basketball, raffle prizes and three local sport team mascots having a dance off.

For first-time volunteer, Isabel Romero, it was a chance to meet new people while helping in the community. Edgar Guerrero called it a privilege to serve the community and the church.

“Seeing all the volunteers out here with their Grand Rapids First shirts shows these families that we care about them and it gives us a unique opportunity to show the love of Christ and to give honor where it is due.” – Pastor Jeremiah

Pastor Brenda Rijfkogel thanks all of the volunteers who gave their time and talents to reach out and be Jesus with skin on. “Thank you for all that you do and we (Pastors Sam and Pastor Brenda) love you all!”

Serving as a volunteer allows you to grow outside your comfort zone in a great way, relating to others, doing outreach and the sacrifice of worship with your time and talents. It’s pretty amazing and I had a great time connecting with all the amazing people involved. Find out more about volunteering at grfirst.org/serve. You’ll be glad you did!
